TIG LANL Service:
All Dell equipment sold to LANL is covered by a Dell Warranty (three (3) year onsite warranty for all systems while warranty details vary for other Dell products). If you have need of warranty service on your Dell equipment please gather the following information:
- The Service Tag from the Dell computer. This is a seven (7) digit alphanumeric
number found either: (a) as a white sticker with a bar code on the back of
a desktop system. (b) On newer desktop systems, on a clear sticker on the
left side panel or top front. (c) On Laptop computers the Service Tag can
be found on the bottom of the laptop on a white sticker with a barcode.
- If you have a problem with a laptop battery or a monitor we will need the
Dell serial number (DS/N) of the monitor or battery in question, as well as
the Service Tag of the PC associated with the part. The DS/N has the following
basic format: xx-xxxxxx-xxxxx-xxx-xxxx.
- Your name, tech area, building, room, phone number, email address, and
any other contact information that may be useful.
- A description of the problem you are having.
- If at all possible, please be in front of the computer in question, powered
up with keyboard, mouse and monitor plugged in, as we may need to do some
troubleshooting at the time of the call.

The first available Technician will take your call and begin working on your issue. In the rare case that all of our technicians are assisting other clients, please leave a message with your name, tech area, building, room, phone number, email address, and brief description of the problem. A technician will return your call within two (2) business hours. Our business hours are from 7:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.
Depending on the results of any over-the-phone troubleshooting, the Technician will inform you of the need to place a parts order or if a Technician will be dispatched for further troubleshooting. If a part is ordered you will receive an email from us explaining the process for receiving and replacing the warranty parts for your Dell as soon as the call is entered.
It is sometimes necessary for us to have a system returned to our service center for in depth diagnostics that we cannot complete in the field. If we request this, please write up a quick note with your name, contact info, and a brief description of the problem. Tape this information to the computer system. Systems that need to be sent in to our service department go through SM-30. SM-30 has all the forms and packaging necessary to return system to us. They can be reached at: 667-4000 or 665-5469
